Gravity

Rain cart by Gerrit van Bakel (1943-1984) moves through rainwater. As soon as the cart is full, the centre of gravity shifts and the container tilts backwards. The cart jumps forward.

Natural phenomena

Van Bakel grew up as a farmers boy. The fascination with natural phenomena is evident in his works. With his ‘inventions’ he provides a counterbalance to the advancing mechanization of farming in the sixties.
