Day trip in the Netherlands

Looking for a day trip in the Netherlands with your friends or partner? Or a day out with children? At the Kröller-Müller Museum you can feast your eyes and won’t get bored for a second. You'll always have great adventures here. Combined with a visit to De Hoge Veluwe National Park, you can spend a whole day enjoying art, nature and architecture.

Museum in the heart of nature

The museum is located in the midst of the beautiful nature of the Hoge Veluwe. You can enjoy this while strolling past the impressive sculptures in the sculpture garden or lounging in the grass. Inside the museum, you can admire masterpieces by great modern masters. Did you know that we have the finest Van Gogh collection in the world? You will also see iconic works of art by Picasso and Mondriaan, among others. You can discover art in a variety of ways at the Kröller-Müller Museum. We have interactive activities for families, guided tours and audio tours.

Day trip with the family

The Veluwe is an ideal destination for a day out with children. Here they can play to their heart's content. For example in the sculpture garden. There you will find the artwork Jardin d'émail, an artificial garden which also makes a wonderful playground. But there are many other places in the sculpture garden where you can really let your hair down. Running, picnicking and taking selfies with the sculptures: it's all possible here. Please note: Jardin d'émail has different opening hours.

What is there to do for all ages?

There are fun activities for young and old at museum. How about a Detective Game with challenging assignments and questions? Or the Museum Dice Game, which takes you through the museum with the roll of a dice? If you want to learn the techniques of the great masters, the Painting Game is the perfect activity for you. On a digital canvas, you recreate the details of artworks from the museum collection under the guidance of the masters. So there is plenty to do. Check out all our family activities for your ideal day out.

To the family activities

Go exploring in the park

Combine a trip to the museum with activities in De Hoge Veluwe National Park to make your day out with the family complete. There are things to do for children in the park throughout the year. For example, go on safari together or discover the park with the free white bicycles for young and old. These bikes are stationed at the three entrances to the park, in the central area and at the museum. Perfect to combine a visit to the museum with other activities and attractions.

Day trip with your partner or friends

Fancy a nice day out with your partner or friends? Then the Hoge Veluwe is the perfect place for you. You can easily reach the various places and activities with the free white bicycles, which can be found at the three entrances to the park and the museum. ‘En route’ you will enjoy all the natural beauty that surrounds you.

At the museum, you will discover art in an interactive way on your day trip with your partner. Our guided tours and audio tours help you to look at art in a new way. The guided tours take you past works of art from the permanent collection and the sculpture garden. There are regular short guided tours or ‘talks’ in the temporary exhibitions. Check our calendar for all the exhibitions.

Day trips in Gelderland during holiday periods

Looking for a day trip in Netherlands during the spring, May, autumn or Christmas holidays? The Hoge Veluwe is also a vibrant destination in the holiday periods. During the autumn holidays, you may even be lucky enough to experience the famous call of the red deer, the ‘belling’ up close in the park. This is because the males start looking for a female to mate with in September. So don't forget to bring your camera!
